To assist the Society of Jesus with the promotion of 'faith and justice'.

The Australian Jesuit Alumni Association, member of the World Union of Jesuit Alumni/ae, is open to all whose lives have been touched by the Jesuits...

It initiates collaboration and partnerships between Jesuits and Alumni/ae...

It integrates the faith of its members with their personal and professional lives...

and it promotes justice by infusing the members professional and civic responsibilities with Gospel values.

The Australian Jesuit Alumni Association (AJAA) is part of the worldwide organisation, the World Union of Jesuit Alumni/ae (WUJA), sharing its three clear goals:

1. To provide continuing formation for Alumni/ae members.

2. To foster 'Jesuit Lay collaboration'.

3. To assist the disadvantaged.

The Australian Jesuit Alumni Association in its Mission Statement, states its aim to assist the Society of Jesus in its promotion of 'a faith that seeks justice'. So, clearly, the formation work of the AJAA is aimed at this ideal.

This aim is approached by offering:

· Leadership courses for young adults in the 20 - 30 year-old age group.

· Dinner speaker evenings for members and guests on issues of public policy with a faith dimension analysis of these issues.

· Retreats for 'Men at Midlife' and for 'Fathers and Sons'.

· Women's Days of Recollection.

Finally, the AJAA publication The Journal, with three editions per year, is the important means of communication with all AJAA Members and Jesuit Communities in Australia, with some circulated overseas.

The Australian Jesuit Alumni Association (AJAA) was formed in 1991 at the request of the then Australian Provincial of the Society of Jesus, to promote and facilitate an ongoing association between Jesuits and Lay people and to assist the Society with the promotion of 'faith and justice'.

Its Members, or Alumni/ae, being students and parents of students educated in Jesuit schools and colleges, and those whose lives have been fostered by the Jesuits and the spirituality of St Ignatius of Loyola.

Members are also called 'Companions'. The term 'Companion' was favoured by Ignatius to describe himself and those around him who banded together AMDG - 'for the greater glory of God'. The Australian Jesuit Alumni Association recognises this title of 'Companion' as well as 'Member' for those who join the Association.

The Executive of the AJAA, appointed by the Provincial, consists of: the President, the Secretary/Treasurer/Editor, and a representative of each State currently active promoting the aims of the AJAA.

There is a Secretariat Office located at St Ignatius' College, Riverview, which is the official address and where AJAA membership records are maintained.

The Australian Jesuit Alumni Association became an incorporated body in 1997.

Membership cost is A$25 per annum.
